About The Work

Project

My piece is called “It’s not cool man, that’s the problem”. It relates to the term creativity in crisis because my piece is about the climate crisis. My piece depicts the disastrous effects human activity has had on warming our climate and creating a chain of destructive events. The change in our natural green house gases will create droughts, floods, hurricanes, losses of crops, losses of wild life, forest fires due to dryness and the scariest of all rising sea levels. When glaciers melt they release tons and tons of water into our oceans which rises the level of the sea. Glaciers also carry and trap many bacterias we have never been exposed too which will now become a part of our water.

My goal in making this piece was to educate people on the atrocities of climate change and how it effects our lives everyday. I didn’t want to create a piece that was devastating our very scary to look at. Instead I wanted to make it more artistic because art has a way of speaking to people.

Proposal

My project is going to revolve around the theme of creativity in crisis and unfold since I am making a piece about the climate crisis. I will be making a digital collage. There will be four sections to my piece each relating to a different aspect of the climate crisis such as; rising sea levels, deforestation, drought, forest fires and pollution.

I will be presenting my project on zoom so I will be taking multiple pictures of my project and putting them on slides and showing them to the audience. I will have a small text to read as well but there will also be some written text on my collage. Ill be using quotes by famous climate activists. I am doing this project because I believe the climate crisis is the biggest thing we should be worrying about as of right now. I do not want this project to be gruesome or frightening because I believe that there are other ways to grab peoples attention.

Creative research:

Work-in-progress
My work process was fairly simple. I started by accumulating multiple pictures I felt were impactful and important to share. I separated my pictures into four categories. The first is forest fires, the second is rising sea levels, the third is drought and floods and the fourth is about pollution. I created my work using canva, a collage maker and I tried my best to stick to similar colours for each slide. Each slide took me about an hour to perfect until it was in my own style.
